What Are Dentures?

Dentures are removable prosthetic devices that are worn inside the mouth. The main purpose of dentures is to replace missing teeth and improve mastication efficacy and speech pronunciation. Other benefits of dentures include regaining vertical dimension of the face loss due to older age, greater lip support to prevent the sunken lip appearance, elimination of Mediolus (corner of the mouth) wrinkles, and obtaining a more natural, healthy, and youthful-looking smile.

There are two types of dentures, removable complete dentures, and removable partial dentures.

When the person has no teeth in either or both dental arches, then a complete denture will be recommended if there is enough jawbone left to support the complete denture. If there is little to no bone support left, then an implant-supported complete denture will be better suited to provide anchorage and stabilize the denture. Removable complete dentures replace all the missing teeth in the arch.

When the person has only a few missing teeth in either or both dental arches, then a removable partial denture will be recommended. Removable partial dentures replace only a few missing teeth in the arch. Further, removable partial dentures can be constructed in many ways. For example:

Traditional Partial Denture – The strongest and most durable partial denture. Uses a metal understructure for strength and rigidity.

Acrylic Partial Denture (Flipper) – The least expensive partial denture. It is made entirely of acrylic resin and uses metal clasps for retention.

Valplast Partial Denture – A flexible and highly cosmetic partial denture that uses no metal at all.

Snap-On-Smile – The most cosmetic partial denture. Snap-on-Smile is made of a very strong and flexible epoxy resin. Snap-on-Smile will not only replace your missing teeth, but it will also transform your smile!

Dentures are an appropriate, affordable way of replacing one or more missing teeth. At the practice of Miami Modern Dental, we provide patients with a variety of tooth restoration options including dental implants, dental bridges, and dentures. Patients who are interested in learning more about dentures and the benefits they provide are encouraged to contact Drs. Marlon Pasquier, Sr. and Marlon Pasquier, Jr., the father/son team of this local Miami practice.

Dentures come in two different types including cosmetic full dentures and partial dentures. Cosmetic full dentures are fabricated to replace an entire arch of teeth and are made with acrylic gums and teeth. Partial dentures are made to replace one or more teeth within the dental arch and are made with metal and acrylic to snap into place.

Both full dentures and partial dentures are extremely economical and patients find that they are easy to remove and care for as well. This is what makes them a desirable solution for many individuals who are struggling with tooth loss. Patients in the area are welcome to call the practice of Drs. Marlon Pasquier, Sr. and Marlon Pasquier, Jr. to schedule a consultation appointment to educate themselves further on the advantages of using dentures to repair and restore the smile.

Many patients who are faced with tooth loss may learn about a restorative approach such as dentures. While images of grandma’s dentures often come to mind, these restorations have come a long way over the years and look more natural, and are better fitting than ever before.

There are two types of cosmetic dentures available at the practice of Drs. Marlon Pasquier, Sr. and Marlon Pasquier, Jr. including full dentures and partial dentures. Full dentures are the kind used to replace all teeth in the upper and/or lower dental arch. Partial dentures replace one or more teeth in the arch and snap into place using a metal and acrylic framework. Full dentures are made of acrylic and include false gums as well.

Both are economical, attractive, and easy to care for, making them a desirable solution for many patients on a budget. Individuals who speak to the team of Miami Modern Dental to learn about restorations are often encouraged to consider dentures as a viable tooth replacement option. However, they are not for everyone, and some patients may be better suited for restorations such as dental bridges or dental implants depending on their needs and desires. A consultation appointment with our father/son team is the first step to making a decision as to which restorative option is most appropriate.

Patients considering dentures are often worried about what problems they may experience. They may have heard negative reviews from patients who have had dentures for many years. However, these patients should not be discouraged from considering cosmetic dentures as most problems have a viable solution. Drs. Marlon Pasquier, Sr. and Marlon Pasquier, Jr. of Miami Modern Dental is aware of the common denture problems patients may experience and offer options to remedy them.

Poor-Fitting Dentures

Dentures may need to be adjusted regularly to ensure fit as the mouth changes over the years. This is why patients are encouraged to bring their dentures with them to every dental visit for any necessary repairs.

Staining

Though acrylics are beautiful, they can be susceptible to staining from foods and drinks. Patients can visit the practice of Drs. Marlon Pasquier, Sr. and Marlon Pasquier, Jr. to learn how to properly clean and maintain beautiful dentures over time to increase longevity.

Breakage

Some situations may cause dentures to break, and replacement may be necessary. However, the team of Miami Modern Dental will repair dentures whenever possible before proposing replacement to patients. Discussing repair and replacement with Drs. Marlon Pasquier, Sr. and Marlon Pasquier, Jr. is the first step to determining the best way to move forward with dentures and possibly reduce the cost of maintaining the restorative smile.

Replacing teeth is important for function and beauty. When an entire dental arch of teeth is missing, it is unreasonable to replace all those teeth with dental implants and impossible to do so with bridges. Full dentures are the only way to go to restore one’s chewing, biting, and speaking efficiency as well as their beautiful smile!

Dentures are preferred over some other restorations such as bridges and implants because they are economical especially when several teeth need to be replaced. There are many times when the father/son team of Miami Modern Dental may suggest dentures for patients. Drs. Marlon Pasquier, Sr. and Marlon Pasquier, Jr. believe that dentures still have a place in cosmetic and general dentistry even with continued advances.

Dentures are popular for patients who are on a budget or who desire a removable apparatus. Bridges and implants are more permanent and may cost more upfront than a denture. Regardless, patients with dental insurance plans may benefit from partial coverage for dentures which can also reduce the out-of-pocket costs for restorations such as these. Drs. Marlon Pasquier, Sr. and Marlon Pasquier, Jr. can work with patients to determine if their insurance plan provides coverage for tooth replacement options such as full or partial dentures.
