What is Root Canal therapy?

Though root canal therapy has had a negative image over the years, it is actually a very simple, routine, and comfortable procedure for many patients. Patients may be experiencing pain and discomfort which brings them into Miami Modern Dental for an evaluation. Drs. Marlon Pasquier, Sr. and Marlon Pasquier, Jr. may decide that the dental pulp within the tooth is diseased or infected and may suggest the benefits of root canal therapy.

Root canal therapy is a procedure during which the dental pulp is removed from inside of the tooth. Once done, it is sealed off with a rubber-like material known as gutta percha and sealed with composite resin bonding to keep bacteria from entering back into the canal after treatment. Teeth near the back of the mouth may also benefit from the placement of a dental crown which can offer another layer of protection against breakage since the natural tooth is considered weaker and not nearly as efficient as it once was against chewing and biting forces.

Drs. Marlon Pasquier, Sr. and Marlon Pasquier, Jr. of Miami Modern Dental are excited to offer this procedure in-house, while many other general dentists must refer the procedure to a special dentist called an endodontist.
